League Format – Division One Proposal

1

The following proposal to change the league format of Division One this coming season has been put forward by Giffnock LT & SC at the West Squash and Racketball (WSR) 2014  AGM.

League Format Proposal for WSR Division One

This proposal affects only the league format of West 1st Division.

*****

A mid-season ‘split’ of the 1st Division is proposed in season 204/2015, to stimulate more meaningful matches throughout the season.

*****

At the halfway break, the top 6 teams would split into a top section of Division One, playing only each other in the second half. This would give 10 matches in the 2nd half of the season, a reduction of 1 match.

Also, the lower 6 teams at halfway would split into a lower section of Division One, playing 10 matches in the 2nd half of the season. A reduction of 1 match.

Although teams would play less matches, the 10 matches after the ‘split’ should be more competitive.

So throughout the season, there should be more matches that have a competitive score, and less scores ending in 18/0, 18/1 etc, etc.

However this does mean that each team will play opponents 3 times throughout the season, and a home/away imbalance.

Discussion from Division 1 Captains and interested parties could suggest other advantages and disadvantages for this proposal and make an informed decision whether it should be adopted for season 2014/2015.

In order to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed change to the league format, all first division Team Captains are invited to a meeting to be held at Bar West on Glasgow Green, on Wednesday 20th August. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM sharp. After discussion, each club will have one vote per team in division one, and a decision will be made on whether to adopt the Giffnock Proposal.
