Become a Referee

Referee Development

Developing referees is a key aim of West Squash; not only for squash but also racketball. West Squash will actively support anyone who wants to become a qualified referee.

Referees are absolutely crucial to squash, for instance;

  • Competitions need referees and are an important part of squash. These events depend on having referees who are qualified and enthusiastic about the game in order to ensure they run smoothly.
  • Team matches on either a Monday and/or Wednesday evening need competent referees!

Knowing the rules helps everyone enjoy the game more!

Next Steps

If you’re interested in refereeing, there’s a couple of things to do. To begin with, you should definitely have a look at the Scottish Squash website. It has a wealth of great information on how to get involved in refereeing – just follow this link!

For more information, please contact John Crawford on Email: john.crawford5star@gmail.com or on mobile: 07766 250 634. John is a former chair of the Scottish Squash refereeing committee, and has a wealth of experience at all levels of refereeing.

Here’s an interesting article on refereeing by Rod Symington (July 2013).
