West Senior Ranking and Junior B Event 2012 – Results

1

After back to back 10+ hours days, the West Senior Ranking and Junior B event has came to an end again…

Sally will undoubtedly have the full results posted on the Matrix soon for you all to dissect, so I’ll leave the unveiling of the full results to the Scottish Squash website in the coming days.  But at the end of two punishing days I present Douglas Kempsell, alongside an envious George Allan, as West Senior A Ranking Division 1 Winner 2012.

Douglas (having came through qualifying and then the trickier task of his David Llyod Renfew team mate Kevin Moran in the semi finals) stepped up to take on the higher seeded Chris Ferguson in the final. Whilst Chris may have played once less match, he had certainly had way more court time in two separate timetable smashing hour plus five setters, the first against Jamie “Farmer” Jacobsen on the Saturday evening and then against top seed Greg Lobban at Sunday lunch time. It’s always a tricky task to do justice to the ferocity of a competitive squash match but the boys went toe to toe for the first two games before Doug took the decisive third before eased away half way through the fourth as the pace took it’s tool on Chris. In the end, perhaps after all that excruciatingly difficult court time against Jamie and then Greg, Chris ran of gas as Doug kept the pace set at “ridiculous” all the whilst pulling off some out right winners that on more than a few occasions left myself and fellow spectators happy to see such a high standard of squash at the end of a long weekend.

Congratulations to Douglas and all the other divisional winners.   (A few more photo’s to follow…)

In closing;  to John, the trio of Dave’s, Billy and Mike you have my personal thanks for continuing to perform the most thankless of tasks.

Special thanks to Mark Coyle, Stu George, David Beaumont, Richard Hollins, Fergus Andrew, Tom Lonergan and every other youngster that gave their time when I needed the help with marking extra games or helped me find and marshal unruly players even though I know it’s not the most fun thing to be doing when you are trying to enjoy the weekend.

As always, eternal gratitude to George (and his Mum) for being a more than capable partner in crime, to David Ward at SSRC for having the place ready on Saturday morning and my fellow members at SSRC for not complaining about losing out on court time.

See you all next year.
